How You Can Get Involved

How YOU Can Get Involved

Become a Member

We invite everyone to become a member of our organization – to attend our events, enter our Y50K business plan competition, read the Yale Entrepreneur magazine, and participate in the YES Network. Our members include current Yale undergrad and graduate students, alumni, professors, administration members, and professionals. For more information, contact YES’s President, Max Uhlenhuth, at [email protected].

Become a Staffer

Individuals who would like to assist with the general operation of YES should consider joining our staff. YES staff members are current Yale undergraduate students who support the organization in one of our nine departments: Competitions, Conferences, Development, Finance, Operations, Public Relations, Social Entrepreneurship, Technology, and the Yale Entrepreneur, YES’s flagship publication and Yale’s business magazine. YES staff members are introduced to the general operation of the department they join as well as to YES as a whole. YES believes strongly in individual responsibility, and our staffers typically assume ownership over a large project and report directly to their Department Director, who serves on the Executive Board while managing that department. Hard work, dependability, and leadership skills are rewarded in a meritocratic environment; exceptionally dedicated freshman may serve on the Executive Board after only one year of active involvement. For more information, contact YES’s President, Max Uhlenhuth, at [email protected].

Perks of Joining our Staff

  • Receive access to our spacious office – a rarity among student organizations – at its prominent Broadway location on 254 Elm Street, featuring: 3 large conference rooms; a private bathroom; computers, printers, TV, and wireless internet access; kitchen with microwave and refrigerator.
  • Tap into YES’s extensive network of administration and faculty members and local, regional, and alumni professionals and entrepreneurs.
  • Gain preferred admission status to limited attendance, high-profile YES events and conferences, such as last year’s trip to Omaha, Nebraska to spend a weekend with Warren Buffet or our annual conferences in New York City and Boston.
  • Work in a professional environment and gain real world experience in one of the most prestigious organizations on campus. High-profile firms are familiar with the organization (many are sponsors) and look favorably upon involvement with YES.

Become a Sponsor

YES is a certified IRS Section 501(c)(3) non-profit. YES’s operations depend on the generosity of our valued sponsors. In order to fund our educational activities and the prizes awarded to winners of the Y50K, for example, we depend on tax-deductible donations from individuals, public companies, and private firms. Our events and publications are available and advertised widely to the entire Yale Community, including undergraduate students and the graduate and professional schools. Our sponsors’ generosity and involvement guarantees our continued mission to promote the entrepreneurial spirit and build a culture of innovation here in the greater Yale community by funding new student start-up ventures and educating young men and women about the practical applications of business, entrepreneurship, and life! If you would like more information about becoming a YES sponsor, please email [email protected].

Become a Judge

The Y50K Entrepreneurship Competition has emerged as one of the country’s elite business plan competitions due largely to the quality and hard work of its judging panel. Y50K judges assess plans on a number of different metrics and offer useful feedback in an effort to help entrants continue to refine their strategies and ideas. For more information, please email [email protected].

Become a Speaker

Throughout the year, YES invites experienced professionals to give lectures, educational seminars, and informal chats to its members and staff. YES holds events both in formal settings around Yale’s campus and informally at its office, so there is a wide range of speaking opportunities available. For more information, please email [email protected].

Become a Mentor

YES has a very active mentoring program that matches teams entering our Y50K Entrepreneurship Competition with experienced and dedicated professionals who will assist in the creation and development of their new ventures. For more information, please email [email protected].
